Addiction Neuroscientist Named Chief Science Advisor for TASC


In October, Timothy P. Condon, PhD, was named the chief science advisor to the Center or Health and Justice (CHJ) at Treatment Alternatives for Safe Communities (TASC). Condon is a distinguished expert in the neuroscience of addiction, and has had extensive experience through his leadership roles in the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA) and the White House Office of National Drug Control Policy (ONDCP). He specializes in the impact of drugs on human behavior and implications for clinical and criminal justice practice. 

During his time with NIDA, Condon was instrumental in establishing the NIDA Clinical Trials Network and the NIDA/Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services (SAMHSA) Blending Initiative. At ONDCP, he was one of the authors of the Prescription Drug Abuse Prevention Plan released in 2011. 

TASC is an organization in Illinois that has provided state-wide “placement into addiction treatment, case management, and recovery support . . . through alternatives to incarceration and reentry programs” since 1976 (TASC Blog, 2013). The CHJ is a nonprofit public policy and consulting group that grew out of task in order to promote “criminal justice and health reform” through evidence-based responses to mental health and substance use.
