Dennis M. Donovan, PhD

Dennis M. Donovan, PhD, is a clinical psychologist and professor emeritus in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at the UW School of Medicine. Prior to emeritus status he served for twenty-five years as director of the UW Addictions, Drug, and Alcohol Institute and was also an adjunct professor in the UW Departments of Psychology, Health Services, and Global Health. Dr. Donovan also served as principal investigator of the Pacific Northwest Node of the NIDA National Drug Abuse Treatment Clinical Trials Network. He has over thirty-five years of experience as a direct service provider, clinical trainer/supervisor, treatment program administrator, and clinical researcher. Dr. Donovan has authored over 245 peer-reviewed publications, thirty-five book chapters, and five books in the area of alcohol and drug dependence. He served as president of the Society of Psychologists in Addictive Behaviors and is a fellow in Divisions 28 (Psychopharmacology and Substance Abuse) and 50 (Society of Addiction Psychology) of the American Psychological Association.
