- The California Department of Health Care Services has announced that the Breining Institute is no longer a state-approved organization for alcohol and drug abuse counselors. Counselors may transfer their certifications to the California Consortium of Addiction Programs and Professionals (CCAPP). Read more by clicking here.
- Rogers Memorial Hospital has expanded its dual-diagnosis services to include psychiatric disorders including mood disorders, anxiety disorders, obsessive-compulsive disorder, and psychological trauma. These changes occurred at the Brown Deer, Kenosha, Madison, and Oconomowoc locations. Read more by clicking here.
- Rogers Memorial Hospital welcomes Phillip J. Seibell, MD, to their staff in Tampa Bay. Dr. Seibell is a board-certified psychiatrist who will provide support for the intensive outpatient and partial hospitalization programs at the Rogers Tampa Bay location. Read more by clicking here.
- The National Action Alliance for Suicide Prevention welcomes Secretary Jessica L Garfola Wright from the United States Department of Defense to the post of public sector co-chair. “We look forward to her leadership to advance national suicide prevention efforts,” stated Action Alliance Executive Secretary Dr. Doryn Chervin. - SAMHSA has announced their 2015–2018 plan to increase awareness of substance abuse and mental health disorders, address prevention, increase access to treatment, and promote emotional health and wellness. - “24 Hours of Hope” is an online mental health awareness event that will be held on October 10—World Mental Health Day—by Rick and Kay Warren of Saddleback Church and over thirty speakers including Drs. Daniel Amen and John Townsend. The event will feature messages of hope as well as practical information on various mental disorders. Read more by clicking here.
- The 2014 Joseph L. Galletta “Spirit of Recovery” Award has been given to Nancy Waite-O’Brien, PhD, of Wind Horse Crossing, Inc. Dr. Waite-O’Brien is the former vice president of clinical services at the Betty Ford Center and the founding member of Shaky Acres, a halfway house in St. Thomas, Virgin Islands.
