- SAMHSA welcomes Kim Brown, MA, as regional administrator for region seven, which includes Iowa, Kansas, Nebraska, and Missouri. Brown is a licensed addiction counselor and has worked in the behavioral health field since 1992. Read more by clicking here.
- NIDA names Carlos Blano, MD, PhD, the leader of the Division of Epidemiology, Services, and Prevention Research. Dr. Blanco is a nationally recognized expert of epidemiology and the treatment of addictive disorders. Read more by clicking here.
- The American Foundation for Suicide Prevention joins forces with LEGAL ONE and Rutgers University to launch “Signs Matter: Early Detection,” an online training program for educators about suicide prevention. The program will teach K-12 educators when to refer students to school counselors and administration. Read more by clicking here.
- Maryland Addiction Recovery Center opens a new space in Towson, MD. An open house ceremony was held on June 3, 2015 and featured MARC’s Executive Director Sam Bierman, Caron’s Tara Handron, and founder of the New Day Campaign Peter Bruun. Read more by clicking here.
- NIDA awards high school senior Glenn Yu with a first place Addiction Science Award for his project titled “Naturalistic Painkillers: Design, Synthesis, and Biological Evaluation of Novel Fatty Acid Binding Protein Inhibitors.” His project involves building a safer and more effective painkiller without the side effect of addiction. - Caron Treatment Centers appoints Bradley F. Sorte as the new executive director at Caron Renaissance in Florida. Sorte was previously a primary therapist at Caron Ocean Drive and worked in the family program at Caron Renaissance. Read more by clicking here.
- Onsite welcomes Rondal Richardson as chief operating officer. Richardson has managed projects in music, film, and television for over twenty-five years and has been involved in New York Times book launches and philanthropy strategies. Read more by clicking here.
