In a town hall meeting before the New Hampshire Primary last month, Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton stated that she wanted to bring marijuana from a Schedule I to a Schedule II in order to facilitate more research on medicinal use.
Clinton told her audience, “We should be learning about what works, what doesn’t work . . . we have got to do the research,” in relation to marijuana and its possible benefits to health care (Ackerman, 2016). In addition to changing the drug’s classification, Clinton also mentioned supporting “legal protection for medical marijuana users” (Ackerman, 2016).
Despite her pro-medical-marijuana stance, Clinton does not support legalization for recreational use at either federal or state levels.
