ASAM and NIDA Support Buprenorphine Training Program

Both the American Society of Addiction Medicine (ASAM) and the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA) have announced their support of a buprenorphine training program for doctor’s offices called “BupPractice.”

BupPractice provides training by giving “an overview of buprenorphine and its mechanism of action; information about drug interactions, precautions, contraindications, and side effects; and a comparison of buprenorphine to other opioid treatments” (Lavitt, 2015) and was developed through a grant from NIDA and the National Institutes of Health (NIH). Doctors prescribing buprenorphine require a waiver from the DEA, so it is important that these doctors understand the drug, its benefits, and its administration. 

Almost ten thousand people have signed up for the training program, which can be found at www.buppractice.com.
