As a mental health and substance use disorder professional, I wanted to write an article for readers that addresses the clinical impacts of the swath of anti-trans and anti-LGBTQ+ legislation that has swept the nation this legislative session. I wanted to be able to bring our readers particular research and data information that they can utilize to inform their practices and make better clinical decisions. I wanted to be able to add to the clinical skills so trans and other LGBTQ+ clients would benefit from more informed care. For example, Mustanski, Andrews, and Puckett (2016) brought forth some really great data about associations between victimization and mental health disorders in a variety of LGBTQ+ individuals from the Chicagoland area. Lothwell, Libbey, and Adelson’s review (2020) addressed key principles and resources available for addressing stress and mental health of minorities and LGBTQ+ youth from the last decade. Both have a plethora of relatively recent and insightful clinical information related to working with LGBTQ+ populations.
